Taylor Sheridan, the creative force behind hit series like "Yellowstone," "1883," and "1923," stated that his plans to retire were abandoned following his purchase of the Four Sixes Ranch in Texas for $330 million. This significant acquisition ultimately led him to sign an exclusive overall deal with Paramount.

Sheridan, 56, had intended to step back from his demanding career after "Yellowstone" concluded, with initial plans to focus on showcasing horses and managing a small personal herd. He had already purchased a ranch in Weatherford, Texas, outright, believing he was financially prepared to stop working.

"I was set up to retire. I was going to be done after 'Yellowstone.' I'd bought the ranch in Weatherford and I paid cash. I didn't owe anybody anything," Sheridan said during a recent appearance on the "Rodeo Time" podcast. "And I was going to put my feet up and show horses and have my little hobby herd over here and that was it. I knew that if I bought this ranch that I was not going to be quitting my day job for a while."

He explained that ensuring the ranch's general manager would remain to oversee daily operations and confirming his son's willingness to eventually manage the property were crucial steps before proceeding with the purchase. The Four Sixes Ranch itself had previously served as a filming location for "Yellowstone" and was where Sheridan first met its owner, Anne Marion. Following Marion's death, Sheridan learned the ranch was slated to be broken up and sold off, as it had not been left to her daughter in her will. The executor of the estate approached Sheridan, seeking someone who would uphold Marion's vision for the property.

Faced with the $330 million price tag, Sheridan initially expressed his financial shortfall to the representatives. At the time, Paramount had been actively pursuing Sheridan to sign an overall deal, concerned he might move to a competing network. Sheridan had consistently declined these offers for years.

However, the situation with the Four Sixes Ranch prompted a change of heart. "But once this happened, I called them and I said, 'You know what? I think I'm ready to make an overall deal,'" he recalled. When asked for a figure, he stated, "Why yes I do. I sure do."

A group of investors led by Sheridan finalized the purchase of the Four Sixes Ranch on January 21, 2022. Since entering into the exclusive agreement with Paramount, Sheridan has been instrumental in developing and producing numerous projects for the streamer, including "Mayor of Kingstown," "1883," "1923," "Lioness," "Landman," "Tulsa King," and "The Madison."

Michael Kelly, a star in Sheridan's series "Lioness," recently praised the writer's talent. "I have told Taylor, I'm like, 'Bro, anything you ever want me to do, I'll do. I love being in Texas. I love saying your words.' I think he's truly a standalone talent," Kelly told ScreenRant. "There's nobody who's doing or has ever done what he's doing. It's incredible what he does. And he's just one of the smartest dudes you'll ever meet. He's fricking brilliant, man. Brilliant. And just one of the greatest storytellers."
