Sydney's train network experienced significant delays on Tuesday following an incident at Central Station where a man attempted to take his own life. The man jumped in front of a train at approximately 11:45 a.m. and was attended to by emergency services. He was believed to be alive at the time of the incident.
Train services have since resumed, but delays continue to affect routes between Central Station and Bondi Junction. Sydney Trains has advised passengers to allow for extra travel time, as trains may experience prolonged stops at platforms or between stations.
This disruption follows earlier, extensive delays that impacted tens of thousands of commuters on Tuesday morning. Services on the north shore were temporarily suspended due to urgent repairs on overhead wiring at Chatswood station. These repairs halted all city-bound trains on the T1 North Shore and Western Line, the T9 Northern Line, and Central Coast and Newcastle lines in both directions. Crews worked overnight to complete the wiring repairs.
