A Mexican national with a criminal history is at large in Pennsylvania after allegedly ramming a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) vehicle with his car during an arrest attempt, prompting a federal agent to discharge a weapon, authorities reported Wednesday.
The incident occurred around 6:15 a.m. in Harrisburg when ICE officers attempted to take Clemente Lara-Hernandez into custody. ICE stated that Lara-Hernandez resisted arrest and subsequently "weaponized his car," ramming an ICE vehicle.
Following the collision, Lara-Hernandez reportedly drove the wrong way down a one-way street, crashing into a civilian vehicle. An ICE agent fired his weapon during the encounter, and another agent sustained a cut to his hand. No individuals were reported to have been struck by gunfire.
The FBI is leading the investigation into the incident. ICE indicated that Lara-Hernandez's prior criminal record includes charges for assault, a hit-and-run, and a domestic incident.
ICE reported a significant increase in attacks against its officers nationwide, citing a more than 1,300% rise in assaults, a 3,300% increase in vehicular attacks, and an 8,000% rise in death threats against them.
