The man suspected of opening fire outside an In-N-Out Burger in Twin Falls, Idaho, over the weekend, killing three people and injuring seven others, has been identified as 24-year-old Chad Williams. Williams died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to police.
Investigators are confident that Williams acted alone, the Twin Falls Police Department said. The motive for the shooting remains under investigation, and Williams' family members are cooperating with authorities. The FBI has offered assistance to local law enforcement and is asking for the public to submit any related media.
An In-N-Out employee was among the three people killed in the incident. Seven others sustained injuries, some critically. An off-duty Idaho state trooper and a private citizen are credited with confronting the shooter, which authorities believe may have prevented further casualties.
Williams attended the College of Southern Idaho in 2022 and 2023, where he served as a senator in the student government until his impeachment in February 2023. A former student government colleague described the impeachment as procedural and related to engagement levels.
Authorities are continuing to interview witnesses and have asked anyone with information about the shooting to come forward. The FBI has also requested that the public submit any video, audio, or still images that may have captured the event.
