Authorities have arrested a 17-year-old male in Texas in connection with a deadly shooting that took place following a high school graduation ceremony in Fairfield, California. The suspect was taken into custody at a home in the Dallas-Fort Worth area by officials from the Fairfield Police Department and U.S. Marshals.

The shooting occurred on June 3, shortly after the commencement ceremony for Sem Yeto High School at Fairfield High School’s Schafer Stadium. An attendee reported that the violence erupted in the parking lot as families and graduates were taking photos. The incident resulted in the death of 18-year-old Jamario Baker, who was killed while still wearing his graduation gown. Three other individuals, aged 11, 20, and 25, were injured in the shooting.

The suspect, whose identity has not been released due to his age, is being held on suspicion of murder. Investigators are working to extradite him to Solano County. Fairfield police stated that detectives worked diligently to identify the suspect, conducting numerous witness interviews, reviewing extensive surveillance and digital video footage, analyzing photographs and electronic records, executing search warrants, processing forensic evidence, and coordinating efforts across multiple jurisdictions to build a strong case.

The Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District issued a statement expressing gratitude for the law enforcement's work. "Our hearts remain with the student’s family, friends, classmates, and all those whose lives have been forever changed by this violence," the statement read. "While today’s announcement may provide a measure of relief to some, it does not lessen the pain felt by our community."
