Authorities say Tyler Robinson, the 22-year-old suspect named in the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, is expected to be charged with aggravated murder and multiple other state offenses, according to a probable cause affidavit released Friday.

The affidavit, seen by NBC News and provided to news outlets Friday, lists aggravated murder among the charges Robinson faces. It also cites felony discharge of a firearm causing serious bodily injury and obstruction of justice. Robinson, who is from Washington, Utah, was identified by investigators as the suspect in the Sept. 10 shooting at Utah Valley University during a Turning Point USA event.

State authorities said all of the offenses described in the affidavit are state charges. Utah Gov. Spencer Cox told reporters at a morning news conference that investigators believe Robinson acted alone. "We do not at this time have any information that would lead to any additional arrests," the governor said.

Police named Robinson as the suspect on Friday, and prosecutors in Utah plan to bring the state charges outlined in the affidavit. The aggravated murder charge is typically reserved for homicides with specific aggravating circumstances under state law; the affidavit did not elaborate on the precise legal basis for that count in this case.

Kirk, a conservative commentator and founder of Turning Point USA, was shot while appearing at a campus event at Utah Valley University on Sept. 10. He died from his injuries, officials said. The shooting prompted vigils and public displays of mourning by supporters, including a gathering outside Turning Point USA's headquarters in Phoenix on Sept. 12.

Local law enforcement and prosecutors have been coordinating the criminal response since the shooting. Investigators released limited details publicly as they continued to develop the case; the probable cause affidavit provided to reporters summarized the reasons authorities say they have probable cause to charge Robinson.

Officials have not disclosed the location of Robinson's arrest or additional investigative steps that may follow filing of charges. Records showed Robinson was from Washington, Utah; additional biographical details provided in the affidavit were not released in full to the public Friday.

Federal agencies may continue to monitor the investigation, but the charges announced in the affidavit are state-level counts. Prosecutors typically decide on filing state charges when evidence indicates violations of state criminal statutes; any federal inquiry or charges would proceed separately and require different legal standards.

Court dates and the specific charging documents have not been published. Prosecutors must formally file the charges in court, at which point more detailed allegations and evidence may become part of the public record. Defense attorneys for Robinson were not identified in the affidavit release, and no attorney for Robinson had publicly commented by Friday.

The case has drawn intense national attention because of Kirk's prominence in conservative politics and his role as founder of a national advocacy group. Investigators cautioned against drawing conclusions beyond the information laid out in the affidavit and emphasized that charging decisions are based on evidence collected and reviewed by prosecutors.

Authorities urged anyone with additional information about the shooting to contact local law enforcement. The investigation remains active, and officials said they will provide updates as further charges are filed and court proceedings move forward.
