Authorities have arrested Santiago Jorge Rogers, 39, in connection with a home invasion shooting that killed Tucson police recruit Carlos Ramirez and wounded his fiancée. A second suspect, Alex James Barnett, 33, remains at large.

Ramirez, 23, was shot and killed at his home in southwestern Tucson early Wednesday morning. He was slated to graduate from the police academy on August 27 and had previously served as a corrections officer with the Pima County Sheriff's Department (PCSD). His fiancée, also 23 and a corrections officer with PCSD, was hospitalized in stable condition.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos stated that the suspects were wearing black clothing and ski masks during the incident, which occurred around 6 a.m. Wednesday.

Surveillance video shows individuals identified as Rogers and Barnett at a gas station convenience store approximately 20 minutes before the shooting. Investigators have identified a third man, who has been contacted by detectives, but no charges have been filed pending further investigation into his involvement.

Rogers was arrested Saturday morning at a hotel on South Palo Verda Road in Tucson and is being held without bond. Court records indicate no prior cases for Rogers in Pima County, though a man of the same name and age has convictions for drug possession and shoplifting in Yavapai County, among other charges in different counties.

Barnett, who also goes by Alex Wilson, has a criminal history that includes prior burglary and weapons convictions. In December 2024, he pleaded guilty to an unlawful imprisonment charge.

Authorities reported that Barnett was last seen wearing a red shirt and black leather vest, riding a Harley-Davidson FLHXS motorcycle with Arizona license plate DA466. He is described as 33 years old and was seen in surveillance footage at a gas station.

Law enforcement is seeking information regarding Barnett's whereabouts and can be contacted via 911 or 520-88-CRIME. A gray Acura MDX SUV, identified as the suspect vehicle, was later seen with a third man parking it and walking away, according to surveillance footage.
