A couple in Surrey has spent £4.1 million on a massive extension to their six-bedroom mansion, transforming it into a party-focused residence inspired by destinations like Marbella and Dubai. The ambitious project, featured on Channel 4's "Extraordinary Extensions," included the addition of a pool house, a dance floor, and a DJ booth.

Naz and Alicia, who own care homes, purchased the neo-Georgian mansion in 2022. Initially described as a solid and well-built house, they envisioned a more expansive living space that could accommodate their love for entertaining. Their plan evolved into a two-tier extension and a leisure wing designed to create a "Dubai-meets-Marbella" atmosphere.

The project, which began in early 2025, saw the couple gutting the ground floor to build the shell of a major extension. Their initial budget was £3.5 million, which later increased to £3.7 million with the addition of an outdoor kitchen. The vision included a large kitchen-diner, a sunken lounge that could double as a dance floor, a bar, a dining room, and two offices on the ground floor. The upper level was planned to feature a master suite, terraces, a sun deck, a firepit, and a glazed pavilion housing a gym, jacuzzi, and indoor pool.

Project Setbacks and Rising Costs

The renovation faced several significant setbacks. Early in the project, the local council investigated the pool house's steel frame for its proximity to protected trees, a situation that carried a potential for unlimited fines. After working with tree surgeons and the council, construction resumed, with £300,000 spent on glazing for the indoor pool house.

Further complications arose in April 2025 when the staircase company building a key element of the main house went out of business, costing the couple £50,000. This led to a shift in their design team, with the architectural designer transitioning to an interior design role. A £20,000 kitchen was installed, alongside a concealed "dirty kitchen" for food preparation.

Delays pushed the project into December 2025, causing the couple to miss the summer entertaining season. Despite the completion of terraces, landscaping, and the distinctive champagne-gold staircase, essential elements like electrical sockets and the bedroom headboard were still missing. The final cost escalated to £4.1 million, significantly exceeding the initial budget.

A Luxurious Party Residence

The completed residence now features cream interiors, walnut paneling, quartz worktops, and gold finishes. The entertainment area boasts a disco ball, a dance floor, banquette seating, and a DJ booth. The master suite includes a walk-in wardrobe and a bathroom with gold fixtures. The property also includes a cinema and a spa area with a jacuzzi and gym. The pair can now entertain and throw parties of their own with the help of a fully-stocked bar

Outdoor amenities include a glazed indoor pool house, an outdoor kitchen, a reflective pool, and a firepit. Naz reflected that the project was a significant undertaking, but ultimately achieved their goal of creating a dedicated party space. After: The couple's outdoor reflective pool

The project was finalized in June 2026, with presenter Tinie Tempah describing the transformation as one of the most significant extensions he had witnessed. Pictured: The couple's lavish, champagne-hued bedroom after completion
