Suri Noelle, the 20-year-old daughter of actor Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, has made her theatrical debut at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Noelle is performing in "Midsummer!", described as a queer adaptation of William Shakespeare's classic play "A Midsummer Night's Dream."
The production, which begins a 13-day run on Thursday, features Noelle alongside eight of her fellow students from Carnegie Mellon University School of Drama in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The show is presented as "bursting with queer transformative joy."
Noelle, who legally changed her name from Cruise, appeared in character for a dress rehearsal, sporting a pillbox fascinator, a yellow shirt, and a purple corset and matching skirt. She spent more than three hours preparing for her opening night.
Noelle, who was raised as a Scientologist during her parents' marriage, later split from the Church of Scientology with her mother and turned to Catholicism. The Church of Scientology is known for discouraging relationships with those outside the religion, and it is believed to be a factor in the fractured relationship between Cruise and his daughter.
Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes divorced in 2012, with Holmes gaining full custody of Suri. Cruise was reportedly obligated to pay approximately $300,000 annually for living expenses until Suri turned 18. Reports indicate that Cruise and his daughter have been estranged for years, a claim that sources close to the actor have denied.
While Cruise is a known fan of Scotland, having played golf in St Andrews, it is considered unlikely that he will attend the performance given the reported estrangement. Noelle lives with her mother in Pennsylvania, where Holmes registered to vote using her mother's middle name, Noelle.
