Suri Cruise, daughter of actors Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, has legally changed her last name to Noelle. The 20-year-old college student's name change was documented in voter registration records obtained by Fox News Digital.
Noelle, who is a student at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, is registered to vote in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, under the name Suri Noelle. This name, an homage to her mother's middle name, was previously used by Suri during her high school graduation in 2024.
As an adult, Suri was legally able to change her name herself. Monica Mazzei, Chair of Buchalter’s Family Law Group, explained that because Katie Holmes had sole legal custody of Suri, she could have consented to a name change before Suri's 18th birthday if desired.
Holmes has previously expressed pride in her daughter's academic pursuits, sharing her anticipation for Suri's college experience. "I’m proud of my daughter. Of course, I will miss the close proximity, but I’m really proud of her, and I’m happy," Holmes stated in an interview with Town & Country. She also reflected on her own youth, stating, "I remember being this age, this time of beginnings. It’s exciting to learn about yourself, and I loved that time, so it makes me happy to think about it like that."
In a notable public statement in 2024, Holmes refuted a report suggesting Suri had inherited millions from her father upon turning 18. Holmes shared a screenshot of the article on social media, labeling it "completely false" and adding, "Enough."
Holmes and Cruise welcomed Suri in April 2006 and married later that year in Italy. The couple divorced in 2012. Holmes has spoken about prioritizing her daughter's privacy due to Suri's high public profile from a young age.
"What has been really important for me with my daughter, because she was so visible at a young age, is I really like to protect her," Holmes said in April 2023. "I'm very grateful to be a parent, to be her parent. She's an incredible person."
In 2022, Suri made her acting debut in the film "Alone Together," directed and written by Holmes. Holmes stated she asked Suri to participate because of her talent, allowing her to perform the role as she saw fit.
