The Supreme Court on June 29 declined to take up former President Donald Trump’s appeal of a $5 million sexual abuse and defamation verdict awarded to E. Jean Carroll, the former advice columnist.
The decision means Trump must pay the $5 million to Carroll, who has alleged that the former president sexually assaulted her in a Bergdorf Goodman fitting room in 1996 and subsequently defamed her by denying the claim. Trump had publicly dismissed Carroll's allegations, suggesting she was not his type and that she fabricated the story to promote her book sales.
