Skincare entrepreneur Sunday Riley, founder and CEO of Sunday Riley Modern Skincare, has shared details of her daily routine, focusing on beauty, hair health, and overall well-being. After studying chemistry, Riley launched her eponymous brand in 2009, which has since achieved global recognition. She is also a mother of four.
Riley's mornings begin at 6:30 a.m. during the school year to manage her household, which includes her children and 12 pets. By 7:30 a.m., everyone is typically out of the house. She often delays breakfast, but if hungry, she opts for cottage cheese, citing its protein content. Riley attributes an increase in protein intake and taking an iron supplement, on her doctor's advice, to significant improvements in her hair, which had been experiencing thinning.
Skincare and Haircare
Her hair care routine involves daily washing to remove build-up, and she uses a red light therapy cap, though she remains uncertain about its effectiveness. Riley also utilizes a homemade hair serum containing peptides and caffeine. For her skin, Riley begins with cleansing, followed by a mist and then a vitamin C serum combined with a vitamin C and turmeric face oil. She emphasizes the importance of vitamin C for addressing hyperpigmentation and dark spots, using it both morning and night to brighten skin and support collagen production. A notable skincare trick she employs is mixing concealer with an eye contour cream to prevent creasing. Riley currently favors Jones Road Foundation and Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter.
Exercise and Diet
Riley admits that her exercise routine is often the first thing to be impacted when work becomes demanding. Ideally, she practices Pilates several times a week, but she currently finds herself in a phase where she mostly contemplates it. She prioritizes long walks most days, often using the time for work calls. To combat the effects of prolonged sitting, she incorporates short stretching breaks every 90 minutes. Riley generally avoids snacking, preferring substantial meals. She has learned to be more mindful of her eating habits, differentiating between genuine hunger and stress-related cravings. She believes in flexibility with meal timing, rather than rigid adherence.
Supplements and Guilty Pleasures
Her primary guilty pleasure is Diet Coke, which she prefers over cake. While she avoids alcohol at home, she will have a negroni or a gimlet when socializing. Riley is a proponent of supplements, but only those tailored to individual needs. She manages a vitamin D deficiency with supplements and also takes methylated B vitamins and folate due to an MTHFR gene mutation. Additionally, she takes glutathione for skin health and ferritin for hair, based on medical advice. Rather than following online trends, Riley collaborates with a functional doctor to determine beneficial supplements.
