A 7-year-old girl in Cody, Wyoming, experienced an outpouring of community support when strangers stepped in to celebrate her birthday after all her invited guests canceled. Chloe Blanden was set to celebrate her birthday at a local pizzeria last weekend, surrounded by decorations and a cake, but with no attendees.

Chloe's mother, Melanie O'Donnell, had initially planned the party at a park, but a move indoors due to extreme heat led to all the invited guests backing out. O'Donnell, whose family recently relocated to Cody, then turned to a local Facebook group with a plea for anyone with children to join her daughter's celebration.

"She hasn’t made a lot of friends yet, and I so badly wanted her to have a great day," O'Donnell told Cowboy State Daily. "Our decorations were out, I’d bought this big cake, and we were all sitting in the downstairs arcade center by ourselves."

The response was swift and generous, with over 150 people responding to the post. Approximately 15 families arrived at the pizzeria, bringing gifts for Chloe. O'Donnell noted that Chloe has developmental challenges that have made befriending others difficult.

"The people who showed up were complete strangers, but they all acted as if they had always known each other," O’Donnell said. "The children were so sweet and well behaved. Chloe had an amazing time."

Adding to the generosity, an individual from Montana sent $25 via Venmo for another gift for Chloe.

Wyoming Senator Cynthia Lummis shared the story on X, formerly Twitter, expressing her gladness that the community supported Chloe. "So glad to see Cody rally around Chloe and help make her 7th birthday memorable. Happy birthday, Chloe!!"

O'Donnell also shared a Facebook post reflecting on the birthday celebration and commemorating her late mother and grandmother, noting the significance of multiple birthdays within her family during that week.
