Stephen Colbert Makes Triumphant Return to Late Night, Jokingly Dismisses Former Network
The former 'The Late Show' host appeared as a guest on Jimmy Kimmel's show, quipping about his departure from CBS.
Stephen Colbert made a notable return to the late-night television landscape Tuesday, appearing as a guest on Jimmy Kimmel’s show, where he humorously addressed his recent departure from CBS.
When Kimmel commented on Colbert appearing happier and healthier, the former host of “The Late Show” replied, “Like I don’t drink a cup of poison every day?”
Kimmel congratulated Colbert on his show’s success at the recent Emmy Awards, where “The Late Show” secured multiple wins, including for best variety series. When asked if anyone from CBS had reached out to congratulate him, Colbert quipped, “I am not familiar with that organization.”
CBS did, however, send Colbert 40 suits he wore during his tenure on the show. “They’re just sitting in a guest bedroom. I don’t know what to do with them,” he said, adding a lighthearted plea for any recent law school graduates in need of professional attire to contact Kimmel.
Colbert also expressed relief at not having to constantly engage with the daily news cycle. “I have an opportunity to not think about the news every day, and I took it,” he stated.
