NFL free agent Stefon Diggs is entangled in ongoing legal disputes, with a defamation and conspiracy lawsuit filed by his former college teammate and personal assistant, Nigel King, currently experiencing delays. The case, initiated in Miami-Dade County in February, centers on King's allegations that Diggs falsely accused him of orchestrating the theft of the receiver's Ferrari in 2024.
According to the complaint, the alleged false accusation led to King being attacked by Diggs' associates at a Miami strip club in December. While Diggs himself is not accused of carrying out the assault, his brothers, Trevon and Darez Diggs, are listed as defendants for allegedly aiding and abetting. Diggs' acquaintances, Vincent Anthony Franklin and Charlie 'Chap' Jordan, are accused of the physical assault, with Diggs, his brothers, and 10 unnamed individuals facing a count of civil conspiracy.
King claims to have suffered "serious and permanent" injuries, including a severely damaged knee, a fractured nasal bone, a scarred lip, and extensive dental damage. The lawsuit asserts that Diggs "either authorized, encouraged, or later ratified the conduct" of those accused of assaulting King.
The legal process has seen requests for extensions. In March, Diggs' attorney secured an extension for co-defendants to be served before Diggs was required to respond. In June, King's attorney filed a motion for an extension to properly serve Darez Diggs and another defendant. The case remains in this holding pattern, according to information provided on Thursday.
Diggs and King were teammates at the University of Maryland, where both played as receivers. After Diggs achieved NFL stardom, King reportedly handled personal logistics for him, including travel and event arrangements.
In a separate legal matter, Diggs is also facing a federal sexual assault case in Maryland. The accuser, Christopher Griffith, recently submitted over 100 pages of messages exchanged with Diggs, which attorneys for Diggs had previously requested. Griffith claims these messages support his allegations. The content of these messages has not yet been publicly disclosed.
Diggs has denied all allegations in the sexual assault case. He had initially sued Griffith for defamation, but Griffith countersued, alleging sexual assault, battery, conspiracy, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and defamation.
Earlier in May, Diggs was found not guilty in an unrelated case where he was accused of assaulting his personal chef during a financial dispute. Diggs maintained his innocence in that instance.
Diggs has been a free agent since being waived by the New England Patriots following their Super Bowl defeat. He has also separated from rapper Cardi B, with whom he shares a child.
