A spectator's conduct during the Lindsay Clancy murder trial has ignited a firestorm on social media after video appeared to show the individual grinning and winking at the livestream camera. The woman, identified as journalist Brittany Romano, was captured on footage displaying these expressions toward the end of Monday's proceedings as court observers were asked to stand.

Romano, who has been following the trial and posting about it on her social media accounts, later defended her actions. In a video posted online, she stated her expressions were directed at family members watching the broadcast and that she "grew up with Lindsay." She also reportedly wrote in a now-deleted social media post that she was "proud" of herself in response to the backlash.

Romano's professional website indicates she is a journalist based in New York City and contributes to publications such as "Elle," "Cosmopolitan," and "Teen Vogue."

Trial Context

Lindsay Clancy is accused of strangling her three young children in their Duxbury, Massachusetts, home in January 2023. Her defense has stated that she does not deny the charges but argues she is not criminally responsible due to suffering from postpartum psychosis at the time of the killings.

Romano had previously posted a selfie with Clancy's defense attorney, Kevin Reddington, on her social media last week.

Fox News Digital has reached out to the court and Romano for comment.
