Spanish goalkeeper Borja Iglesias has voiced apprehension about shaking hands with President Donald Trump following the World Cup final on Sunday, should his team emerge victorious against Argentina. Iglesias, speaking to Spanish media, indicated he does not wish to create controversy and hopes the interaction is swift.

"I don't want to go to prison," Iglesias stated, as reported by All Out Soccer. "I hope to greet him at a time when we are all very happy, and that it passes very quickly and I can forget about it." He added that while he has many desires, he lacks the power to change certain realities.

Iglesias has previously expressed support for pro-Palestinian protesters and was critical of the former Spanish soccer federation boss who faced repercussions for kissing a player after the FIFA Women’s World Cup. The goalkeeper believes Trump struggles with individuals advocating for progress and fundamental values.

President Trump is scheduled to attend the World Cup final. He was present for the trophy presentation at the FIFA Club World Cup and participated in the celebration ceremony on stage. Spain is set to play Argentina at 3 p.m. ET, with the match broadcast on FOX.
