Jake Reiner, the son of the late actor-director Rob Reiner and photographer Michele Reiner, is preparing to mark the one-year anniversary of his parents' deaths by speaking publicly for the first time about the tragedy. In an interview with KABC-TV, the 34-year-old described the ongoing difficulty of processing his new reality.

"It's been eight months. It feels like eight years, at the same time, and it also feels like eight minutes," Jake Reiner told journalist Marc Cota-Robles. "Because every moment that I wake up, I'm reminded of my reality, and you're living through that every single day."

Rob Reiner, 78, and Michele Reiner, 70, were found dead in their Los Angeles home in December 2025. Their younger son, Nick Reiner, 32, faces first-degree murder charges in their deaths. Jake Reiner recounted learning of the incident via a phone call from his sister, Romy Reiner, while attending a memorial event.

"I didn't get to stop it from happening. I had no choice in the matter," Jake Reiner said. "I just have to accept the reality of it. And to me, that is just one of the most infuriating parts of all of this."

Nick Reiner was arrested shortly after the bodies were discovered. He pleaded not guilty to the murder charges in February. The charges carry a potential sentence of life without parole or the death penalty.

Earlier in October, Nick Reiner's defense team requested access to a $1.5 million trust fund established by his parents, arguing that $200,000 had already been spent by trustees since his arrest. A hearing is scheduled for October to review the trust account, and a pretrial hearing is set for September 15.

Jake and Romy Reiner testified before the grand jury that indicted their brother in July. However, Jake Reiner stated in the interview that he has not spoken directly with Nick Reiner since his arrest and has not attended any of his court hearings. He expressed his inability to comprehend the events, stating, "My parents had unconditional love for all three of us, and I'll never understand. I don't care how it's explained to me. I don't care what facts come out. I'll never understand why this happened."

Following the events, Jake Reiner said, "Now it's just me and Romy."
