A 22-year-old Somali man has been charged with attempted murder following a stabbing incident at the Stanwell Hotel in west London on Saturday evening. Police responded to reports of the stabbing at approximately 6:30 p.m. at the hotel, which is located a few miles from Heathrow Airport.

The victim, a man in his 30s who works at the hotel, sustained injuries that were initially described as life-threatening but are now reported to be stable and no longer life-threatening. He was taken to a hospital for treatment.

The accused, identified as Abdifatah Yusuf Adani, was taken into custody and formally charged by the Metropolitan Police with one count of attempted murder. He has been remanded and is scheduled to appear at Staines Magistrates' Court on Monday morning.

A significant police presence remained at the scene throughout Sunday as investigations continued.

The Stanwell Hotel began housing asylum seekers and their families in 2022, following a decision by the Home Office. Plans have since been submitted to convert the property back into a hotel for business and leisure travelers, which would involve modernizing and refurbishing the building and increasing its room capacity. If approved, current asylum seekers housed at the hotel would be relocated. The Home Office has stated its commitment to moving away from using hotels for asylum accommodation and is working to provide alternative housing solutions.

In the past, a former hotel worker had reportedly expressed concerns that the hotel's use for asylum seeker accommodation had made some local residents feel unsafe.
