SE Kitchen, a social enterprise focused on providing affordable food and assistance to individuals facing financial hardship, is set to open its third location in Chatham, Kent. The new shop will be located in the Pentagon Shopping Centre and is scheduled to begin operations in October. This expansion adds to the organization's existing branches in Ashford and Ramsgate.

The social supermarkets operate by redistributing surplus food and offering groceries at reduced prices. Rebecca Smith, chief executive of SE Kitchen, stated that the organization aims to create a supportive and inclusive environment where individuals can meet their immediate needs while also working towards a more stable future.

The Chatham branch will be accessible to all residents of Medway without requiring referrals or membership. In addition to food provisions, the shop will serve as a community meeting space. Medway Council highlighted that the initiative will provide "wrap-around support designed to address the root causes of financial hardship."

Teresa Murray, deputy leader of Medway Council, emphasized the critical importance of access to affordable and healthy food for community well-being. She added that the new community supermarket's location in the heart of Chatham is a valuable asset that will complement ongoing support efforts by the council.
