Skeletal remains were discovered Wednesday afternoon in a vacant brownstone in East Harlem, where a homeless veteran was reportedly living.
NYPD officers responded to a call at the building on East 115th Street between Second and Third Avenues and found the skeletonized body. A representative for the building owner reportedly found the bones while inspecting the three-story row house.
According to public records, a 311 complaint from the previous year indicated the building was an abandoned drug rehabilitation facility and that a homeless veteran had been camping there for at least two years. The duration for which the building has been vacant is unclear.
The Medical Examiner’s office is conducting a forensic examination to confirm the identity of the remains. The investigation is ongoing.
