Alexis Wilkins, a country singer and the girlfriend of FBI Director Kash Patel, publicly defended her performance at the Great American State Fair on Wednesday, pushing back against social media users who questioned the circumstances of her being booked for the event.

Wilkins announced her upcoming performance on X, stating it was "a great honor to be a part of the 250th birthday of this great nation." However, her announcement followed the withdrawal of several more well-known entertainers from the event, leading to skepticism online. Some social media users speculated that Wilkins secured the gig due to Lara Trump's unavailability, while others directly linked her relationship with Patel to her booking.

One X user, @sarahigdon, posed a question that drew a strong reaction from Wilkins: "Does having the FBI director’s girlfriend getting paid by the taxpayers to perform violate federal ethics laws?"

Wilkins responded with a detailed statement on X, asserting that her performance and involvement were based on her established career in music and commentary, not her relationship with Patel. She stated, "I have been a country music artist for years now. I have had a successful career in both music and commentary/strategy. People don’t get to negate that for clicks or headlines." Wilkins also clarified that she is not accepting payment for the performance, emphasizing that the Freedom 250 celebration is funded through fundraising and not taxpayer money, particularly regarding the National Mall events. She declared an end to accepting "false narratives and total sham accusations that diminish my hard work and earned accomplishments."

Wilkins, 27, has been dating Patel, 46, for approximately three years. Their relationship has attracted increased public attention and scrutiny since Patel assumed the role of FBI Director. In November, reports emerged that Patel had arranged for a SWAT security detail to accompany Wilkins during her travels. Further controversy arose in December when it was reported that Patel had instructed Wilkins' security officers to drive a friend of hers home after a night of drinking.
