Months after his February arrest during Mardi Gras celebrations in New Orleans, actor Shia LaBeouf continues to consume alcohol daily, according to documents obtained by TMZ. LaBeouf pleaded guilty in June to three counts of misdemeanor battery and was sentenced to two years of probation, which includes attending an alcohol treatment class.
While LaBeouf has been adhering to his probation requirements, including checking in with his supervisor and providing proof of upcoming completion for anger management and substance abuse treatment, he has reportedly denied mental health treatment. His next court hearing is scheduled for September 23, though he is expected to miss it due to film production.
The incident that led to his arrest occurred in the early morning hours of February 17. After reportedly being asked to leave a French Quarter bar for being unruly, LaBeouf allegedly became belligerent. Witnesses described him as inebriated and aggressive. Upon exiting the bar, he is accused of punching the employee who escorted him out. LaBeouf was later restrained by patrons after returning and allegedly assaulting the same employee again, as well as punching another individual in the nose.
Video footage from the altercation showed LaBeouf using anti-gay slurs and head-butting one of the individuals involved. He was subsequently taken to a hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries before being arrested and booked at Orleans Parish Prison. He was released on $100,000 bond following his court appearance on February 26.
In March, an insider close to the actor expressed concern to Page Six, stating that LaBeouf faced a potential "tragic ending" if he did not stop drinking. The source emphasized the severity of his struggles, noting that someone with "so much to live for continually puts himself at risk."
