Shailene Woodley earned her first Emmy award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series for her role in "Paradise" at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards ceremony held on Sunday. The 34-year-old actress accepted the award for her portrayal of Annie, a former Graceland tour guide.
"Mom, this is so cool," Woodley said in her acceptance speech. "I just feel so lucky to do what we do and to be a part of the circus with all of you amazing traveling storytelling clowns."
Woodley, who was previously nominated in 2017 for an Emmy for her work on "Big Little Lies," described her "Paradise" character as "calculated" and "patient." She also expressed admiration for Annie's internal resilience.
The "Paradise" series, which stars Sterling K. Brown, received a total of seven nominations for the year. The Creative Arts Emmy Awards serve as a prelude to the main Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony scheduled for September 14.
Other notable recipients at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards included Linda Cardellini, who won for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series for her role in "DTF St. Louis." Her co-star David Harbour also secured an award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series. The show itself was recognized for Outstanding Cinematography for a Limited Series.
Jason Bateman and Richard Jenkins, also from "DTF St. Louis," were in attendance. Bateman, 57, was joined by his wife Amanda Anka.
Connor Storrie, 26, attended the event with his mother, Linda Storrie. Storrie was nominated for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for hosting "Saturday Night Live."
Julia Stiles, 45, appeared in a royal purple gown. Fifteen years prior, Stiles received a Primetime Emmy nomination for her role in "Dexter." She is currently participating in season 35 of "Dancing With The Stars."
Actress Betty Gilpin won an award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy for her work in "Widow's Bay."
Mikaela Hoover of "Beef" also attended the ceremony.
Ernest Harden Jr., 73, received his first Emmy for his role as Louie Cloverfield in "The Pitt." He reflected on his long career in the entertainment industry, which began in 1974.
"I am on cloud 25," Harden Jr. said backstage. "I’m not saying this is a complete surprise because The Pitt is such a powerful show to come from, but just to get it in your hands is unreal."
