Simon Levy, described as a "predatory monster," has been sentenced to life in prison for the murders of Carmenza Valencia-Trujillo, 53, and Sheryl Wilkins, 39, and the rape and near-fatal suffocation of a third woman. The sentencing follows his conviction last week at the Old Bailey.
Levy, 40, had been preying on women for years, with many of his offenses occurring while he was on bail. Detectives believe his attacks escalated over time, from groping women on the London Underground to rape, suffocation, and murder. He was convicted earlier this year of 13 sexual assaults between 2018 and 2025.
Despite a history of sexual violence dating back to 2018, Levy was repeatedly released on bail after being arrested on suspicion of sexual assaults and even murder. British Transport Police, the Metropolitan Police, and magistrates have been criticized for failing to recognize the danger he posed, allowing him to remain free and continue his offenses.
While on bail, Levy committed at least six sexual assaults on the Tube. He raped and suffocated a sex worker, leaving her for dead, before killing Valencia-Trujillo and Wilkins. The body of Valencia-Trujillo was discovered in a stairwell in Southwark, with evidence of neck compression and suffocation. Wilkins was murdered in the same location as an earlier rape attack by Levy, near his own home.
Levy's criminal history includes a three-year jail sentence starting in 2021 for sex attacks at Notting Hill Carnival and a Camden street party in 2018. Even while incarcerated, he continued to target women, groping a prison officer in 2022. He was released early in February 2023 and, despite telling probation staff he rarely left his home due to an eye condition, began assaulting women on the Tube in October 2023.
Levy was arrested in November 2024 for two Tube sex attacks, but an officer delayed identification checks, extending his bail. The following night, he committed his first rape. His offending escalated further when police delayed his arrest for a suspected murder, instead extending his bail. He was charged with five sex assaults on the Tube on May 2 and remanded in custody overnight, only to be released on bail by magistrates the next day, despite also being suspected of murder.
Levy failed to appear in court on June 3 after being charged with a sixth sex assault. He was spotted on the underground weeks later and charged with breaching bail conditions. Despite appearing in court, he was granted bail again. He missed further hearings in July and August, but no warrant was issued for his arrest. On August 28, he murdered Sheryl Wilkins, leaving her body in the same location as a previous rape attack. He was arrested on September 5 after being identified by facial recognition cameras at the scene and remanded in custody three days later.
In February, Levy was convicted of 11 sexual assaults that occurred between April 2022 and May 2025. This prosecution was kept secret to avoid prejudicing his subsequent murder trial.
