Actress Selma Blair revealed a complex emotional state in an Instagram exchange shortly before an alleged violent incident aboard a Delta flight on Sunday. In a comment on a fan's post that suggested she was "feeling great and doing great," Blair responded, "I'm. It [sic] great. I'm sad. I'm grateful. I hope. I am not great."
This exchange occurred prior to an alleged assault on a New York-bound flight, during which Blair is accused of punching one flight attendant and biting another. According to 911 audio, the pilot requested medical assistance and law enforcement be present upon landing to deal with an "abusive" passenger. The pilot reported that injured passengers sustained "a bloody nose and some bite marks."
Moments before the alleged incident, Blair also posted content to Instagram, featuring a montage set to the Pixies' song "Wave of Mutilation." The post included aerial views from her airplane seat, selfies, pictures with friends, and photos of her dog. She captioned the post, "From LA to New Mexico to La to nyc to LA Scout and I have been busy. I miss you."
Blair was reportedly restrained on the plane and arrested upon arrival at John F. Kennedy International Airport. Further allegations state that while being transported to a hospital in an ambulance, she kicked a Port Authority police officer. At the hospital, she reportedly assaulted a nurse who has since pressed charges.
Blair's representative stated that the actress "experienced a medical emergency that led to the alleged conduct" and that she received immediate medical attention after landing, currently being in stable condition. On Monday night, Blair pleaded not guilty to two counts of second-degree assault. Her defense attorneys argued in court that their client had missed her medication for multiple sclerosis and had also fallen and hit her head, asserting that "This was not an intentional assault."
Blair was released on bail, with her case adjourned until January 19, 2027. She faces a potential sentence of two to seven years in prison if convicted.
