Strict bail conditions have been imposed on three teenagers accused of aggravated sexual assault at the prestigious Scots College in Sydney, Australia. The conditions, which include curfews, bans on social media use, and exclusion from specific areas, have been revealed as families of two of the accused engage defamation lawyers to safeguard their identities.

The teenagers, described as the "Scots College Three," are accused of gang-raping a 14-year-old girl in an alleyway last month. Police confirmed that two replica firearms and a Glock-style BB gun were seized from the home of one of the accused during their arrest. The youngest of the accused is 13 years old, with the other two aged 14.

Bail Restrictions and Legal Actions

Under their bail conditions, all three boys are prohibited from entering the suburb of Bondi Junction and are forbidden from associating with each other outside of school hours. They must remain inside their homes between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m., only permitted to leave in the company of their parents. A significant restriction includes a complete ban on using any social media platform.

All three are forbidden from contacting the alleged victim. However, the 13-year-old faces additional conditions specifically related to the victim, including prohibitions against assaulting, threatening, stalking, harassing, or intimidating her, as well as recklessly destroying her property or harming her animals.

The families of two of the boys have retained a law firm specializing in high-stakes defamation, reportedly to ensure that statutory restrictions protecting the identities of the accused are strictly enforced, particularly in online comment sections and social media. This legal action comes amid ongoing whispers and speculation surrounding the alleged incident.

School's Response and Community Concerns

Scots College has engaged a public relations firm to manage the fallout from the scandal, which is described as the gravest in the school's 133-year history. Headmaster Dr. Ian Lambert informed parents via email about the arrests and cautioned against vigilantism. The school's statement, released jointly with Chairman Glen Pather, emphasized that sexual violence is unacceptable and inconsistent with the college's values. They noted that the alleged incident occurred off-campus and outside school hours, and that the college does not have first-hand knowledge of the events.

Questions have been privately raised about the effectiveness of consent education at Scots College. A former student suggested that the prevailing attitude within the school community was that consent education was primarily the responsibility of parents, not the institution. The college statement also addressed commentary that minimizes sexual violence or targets individuals, appearing to respond to remarks made by Scots Old Boy and billionaire CEO Arthur Tzaneros. Tzaneros had reportedly described the alleged victim as a 'willing participant' and the assaults as 'fake news' in a WhatsApp group conversation, comparisons to a notorious past case were also made.

Dr. Lambert and Mr. Pather stated that all students from Year 5 upwards have been spoken to about the matter in age-appropriate ways. They reiterated that consent and respectful relationships are addressed through ongoing programs rather than single lessons, and that the college's Christian foundation calls students to treat all people with respect and accept responsibility for their actions.
