A second British soldier has been killed while on operations in Ukraine, the Ministry of Defence confirmed on Monday. The unnamed individual died following a road traffic incident on Saturday, September 12.

Officials declined to specify the location of the incident or the unit to which the deceased soldier belonged. The Ministry of Defence has previously acknowledged the presence of a limited number of UK personnel in Ukraine, whose roles include providing security for British diplomats and supporting the country's armed forces.

This is the second British military fatality confirmed in Ukraine. In December of the previous year, Lance Corporal George Hooley, a paratrooper, died in circumstances described by officials as mysterious. At the time, the Ministry of Defence stated that LCpl Hooley, 28, was 'testing a new defensive capability away from the front lines'.

"It is with deep regret that we must announce that a member of the UK Armed Forces died in a road traffic incident in Ukraine on Saturday 12th September," the Ministry of Defence said in a statement. "The family have been informed and have requested a period of grace before further details are released. Our thoughts and our sympathies are with the individual's loved ones at this difficult time."
