A joiner from Barrhead, Scotland, has died after becoming seriously ill while preparing to fly home from a holiday in Turkey. David Kelly, 59, fell suddenly unwell at the airport, which led to him being hospitalized and placed in an induced coma.

His wife, Dawn, remained at his bedside in a Turkish hospital for four weeks before Mr. Kelly was medically evacuated back to Scotland on June 8. He was admitted to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley, where he passed away on June 18, surrounded by his family.

A fundraising page has been established to help the family with the financial impact of the medical treatment and repatriation. The page described the trip as having turned into a "nightmare" and detailed how Mr. Kelly's condition rapidly deteriorated at the airport.

Mr. Kelly was described as a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend, known for his willingness to help others. The funds raised will also support his wife and family, cover funeral expenses, and provide donations to Kidney Research UK and the Intensive Care Unit at the Royal Alexandra Hospital.

Following Mr. Kelly's death, his family announced that his business, Barrhead Joinery, would cease trading. They expressed gratitude for the work he had undertaken over the years.
