Savannah Guthrie recently expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming "Today" show broadcast from Ireland, a trip that holds personal significance due to her mother Nancy's Irish roots. Guthrie, whose mother was declared missing in February, shared on air that her mother was from Ireland and that she herself had never visited the country.
"My mother was Irish, her grandmother - they're from Galway," Guthrie said during the show's announcement. The anchor's mother, Nancy, was last seen at her home in Tucson, Arizona, on January 31. In February, the Guthrie family received a note that the anchor believes to be authentic, which claimed the 84-year-old had died of heart failure shortly after being taken from her home.
This past June, Guthrie briefly spoke about her mother's disappearance on the air. "I love you guys and I love this place," she told her colleagues at the time, acknowledging the unusual circumstances. Addressing the public, she pleaded for assistance, stating, "Somebody knows something, and this is a new story today that is on your radar, but this is the life that my sister lives, that I live, that my brother lives, that our extended families live, that our children live, every day. And we are in agony. We cannot be at peace."
The "Today" show team is scheduled to broadcast a full episode from County Kerry next month. This trip marks a poignant moment for Guthrie, connecting her to her mother's heritage while the family continues to search for answers regarding her whereabouts.
