Insiders have claimed that actress Sandra Bullock, while promoting the upcoming sequel "Practical Magic 2," was controlling of her late partner Bryan Randall, allegedly isolating him from loved ones. Bullock, however, has stated that Randall himself requested his battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) be kept private.

Randall, a professional photographer and former model, died in August 2023 at the age of 57 after a three-year struggle with ALS. Bullock revealed on the "SmartLess" podcast that she began grieving him years before his death due to his diagnosis. She stated that Randall asked her not to speak about his illness, a request she honored, but that this decision "isolated me in the process."

However, sources close to Randall have offered a different perspective, suggesting that Bullock was the one who created a divide between Randall and his life before their relationship. These sources claim that Randall's family and close friends felt "frozen out" by the actress during their eight years together. An insider told the Daily Mail that Bullock has not been in contact with Randall's daughter, Skylar, since his death, despite the couple having raised her together along with Bullock's adopted daughter, Laila.

Randall's mother, Evie, has reportedly taken his distance from the family "really hard," while his daughter Skylar is said to be "doing great" despite her father's passing.

According to the Daily Mail, after meeting Bullock in 2015, Randall rarely visited his family and friends in his hometown of Portland, Oregon. Friends who attempted to contact him often received no response. An exception was the funeral of his father, Gary, in December 2016, where Bullock was present and described as "lovely and kind."

Wayne Scot Lukas, a celebrity fashion stylist and friend of Randall, noted that Bullock was "very particular and semi-controlling when it comes to her image" and protecting her privacy. He suggested that while Randall was "hidden away, locked in at Rapunzel's castle," this might have helped him maintain sobriety.

Another source claimed Bullock was wary of Randall's relationships with other women, stating, "She didn't want her image tarnished." This source suggested Bullock took measures to prevent any potential media misinterpretations, such as photos of Randall with female friends. Mia St John, an ex-professional boxer and acquaintance of Randall, agreed, stating it was "for sure" that the actress wanted to distance him from other women.

Randall was diagnosed with ALS in 2020. Many of his friends and distant relatives were reportedly unaware of his condition until it was announced publicly. He was absent from Bullock's film sets in Vancouver and the Dominican Republic during this period. A strict COVID-19 testing protocol was in place at their home, and visitors were limited. Bullock reportedly stopped hosting her usual large holiday gatherings.

Despite the reported strain his illness placed on their relationship, sources indicated Bullock remained devoted to Randall and ensured he received medical care. He had been living in one of her Malibu properties, which some interpreted as a sign of separation, though sources denied this.

Following Randall's death, there was no public funeral or memorial service. An insider stated that Bullock wanted to "control the narrative," leaving many beyond his immediate family unaware of his passing and unable to say goodbye. His life, the insider claimed, was "boiled down to just being her boyfriend."

On December 30, 2023, which would have been Randall's birthday, Bullock scattered his ashes in the Snake River in Wyoming, a gesture described by her sister as "far from everything... far from flashes, cameras and noise."
