A San Diego bar bouncer has been charged with three felonies, including assault with a stun gun, after tasing a patron in the face at close range on June 24. The incident occurred at Park 101 bar while the establishment was packed for a FIFA World Cup game.
Prosecutors stated that the 21-year-old victim, Robert Pulito, is "very lucky" the taser probes did not cause substantial injury, as both struck the corner and below the middle of his left eye. Deputy District Attorney Kimberly Coulter said in court that had there been substantial injury, the charges would have included a request for no bail.
Video footage shows the bouncer, identified as David Marquez, aiming and firing the stun gun at Pulito, who then collapsed to the ground. Bystanders attended to Pulito as Marquez was arrested by law enforcement before 8:30 p.m. that night. Marquez has since been fired from his job at the bar.
Court records indicate Marquez has a prior misdemeanor case for domestic violence dating back to 2006. Prosecutors also found a separate social media video of Marquez involved in a fight with a bar patron on the same day as the tasing incident.
Marquez is scheduled to return to court next month.
