At least 13 train passengers were killed and ten more were wounded in central Ukraine after a Russian drone struck a platform at the Dnipro railway station on Thursday. President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that "The Russians attacked the platform where a regular commuter train and a regular passenger train were standing." He added, "Unfortunately, as of now, 13 people have been confirmed dead."

According to the national rail company's chief, Oleksandr Pertsovsky, an elevated threat level had been announced, but a significant number of people remained on the platform. Russia has previously targeted trains across Ukraine since the beginning of its 2022 invasion, destroying hundreds of locomotives and causing casualties among railway workers.

In September alone, over 5,800 Ukrainian train services experienced passenger evacuations due to the threat of Russian drone strikes, the national railway operator reported. Ukraine's extensive rail network serves as a critical transportation artery, with some cross-country journeys lasting up to 24 hours.
