Russia launched waves of missiles and drones targeting Kyiv overnight into Monday, killing at least seven people and wounding 24, according to city authorities. The attack, which was still ongoing early Monday morning, caused a residential building in the Podilskyi district to partially collapse and damaged several buildings in the Darnytsia district, with people believed to be trapped under rubble.

Explosions echoed across the capital as civilians sought shelter in metro stations. The strikes involved a mix of ballistic and cruise missiles as well as drones.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had warned hours earlier that another large-scale Russian attack on the city was imminent. Zelensky has repeatedly called on Western partners to bolster Ukraine’s air defenses, specifically requesting more Patriot missile systems. He stated that a failure to replenish these defenses emboldens Russia to prolong the ongoing conflict.

This latest attack follows a combined Russian assault last week that killed at least 31 people in Kyiv.
