The British Royal Family did not publicly acknowledge Meghan Markle's 45th birthday, a move attributed by royal experts to her and Prince Harry's decision to step down as working royals in 2020. Royal commentators suggest that birthday wishes to private citizens are typically handled privately.

"There’s absolutely no way anything will be put on social media feeds or anything like that," royal commentator Tom Sykes told Page Six. He added that the family has not posted public birthday wishes for Markle on social media platforms for several years, a practice that has continued since the Sussexes resigned from their royal duties.

Royal expert Kinsey Schofield echoed this sentiment, stating that the Royal Family reserves official birthday acknowledgments for working royals. "Palace officials would tell you it’s protocol, not personal," Schofield explained.

Despite the lack of public outreach, both experts believe that some members of the monarchy will likely extend private birthday greetings. Sykes suggested that King Charles III, as a "scrupulously polite man," would likely send his daughter-in-law birthday wishes, possibly through his staff with a gift or card. Schofield noted that Charles has "always had a compassionate streak" and would likely make a "discreet gesture."

Conversely, Sykes indicated that Prince William and Kate Middleton are unlikely to send birthday wishes. Schofield elaborated that there is "simply no relationship" between them and Markle, who she believes played a significant role in the "breakdown of family trust."

Markle, who resides in California with Prince Harry and their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, marked her 45th birthday by posting photos of herself with balloons. Last year, she celebrated her 44th birthday with friends and family at a Los Angeles restaurant.

The Sussexes have reportedly been in the process of mending relations with King Charles III, having visited him and Queen Camilla last month. However, the relationship with Prince William and Kate Middleton remains strained.
