Florida Governor Ron DeSantis faced criticism after making a historical inaccuracy in a social media post. The incident began when an X account, No Context Brits, shared a post about a pub in Britain that predates America's founding, humorously noting its age in comparison to America's 250th birthday.

DeSantis responded to the post, writing, "And if it wasn’t for America the insignia on the pub would be written in German." This comment suggested a direct U.S. role in repelling German forces during World War II.

Critics quickly pointed out that the United Kingdom repelled a German assault during the Battle of Britain in 1940, an event that marked the Nazis' first major defeat of the war. At the time of the Battle of Britain, the United States had not yet entered World War II, which occurred more than a year later.

DeSantis, who holds a history degree from Yale University, received a community note correction on X, and numerous social media users highlighted the perceived error in his statement.
