Led Zeppelin frontman Robert Plant made an unexpected appearance at a junior chess championship in Bewdley, Worcestershire, engaging in casual games with teenage participants. The event, the mayor's Charity Junior Chess Tournament, was held at St George's Hall.

George Walker, a 17-year-old from Kidderminster and a self-described fan of Plant's music, recounted his surprise at facing the rock star across the chessboard. "He was really decent," Walker said, adding that he won the game by resignation because Plant had to leave early. Walker, who attends a local chess club, had been invited to participate by an organizer.

Walker noted that he did not initially recognize Plant due to his attire. "I was shocked at first because he is one of my favourite music artists," he stated. Plant had to depart before the match concluded, leading to Walker being declared the winner. Walker expressed hope for a future rematch with the musician.
