A rock climber was rescued Friday afternoon after falling and sustaining injuries approximately 700 feet up a sheer rock face known as “Power Dome” near Courtright Reservoir in California.

The incident occurred around 12:45 p.m. when the climber fell. Emergency services were dispatched to the remote location.

A helicopter crew from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Coastal Division Air Operations, accompanied by a rescue technician from the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office, responded to the scene.

Rescuers determined that a hoist extraction would be the most effective method for retrieving the climber, opting against a 500-foot rope rappel. The Shaver Lake Fire Department confirmed this approach.

Agencies involved in the complex operation included the Fresno County Search and Rescue Mountaineering Team, CHP Coastal and Central Division Air Operations, the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office, Fresno Cal Fire, and the U.S. Forest Service’s Sierra National Forest.

Following the successful extraction, the climber was transported to a waiting ambulance to receive necessary medical attention. View from a helicopter of an injured rock climber being rescued from a steep cliff face by a rescue technician.
