Jake and Romy Reiner, children of the late actor and director Rob Reiner, threw out the ceremonial first pitch before a Los Angeles Dodgers game on Sunday, August 2, 2026, as a tribute to their parents. The siblings honored their parents' deep connection to the Dodgers and baseball, a shared family passion.
"The Dodgers have always been a huge part of our family," Jake Reiner wrote on X, formerly Twitter. "My dad and I could talk baseball for hours and I truly never felt closer to him than when we’d watch games together." He added that Dodger Stadium was a place the family loved to visit.
Jake and Romy wore jerseys with "Reiner" across the back for the occasion before the Dodgers' game against the Boston Red Sox. Jake's pitch was a strike, while Romy's pitch went wide of home plate. They were joined on the field by Dodgers outfielder Alex Call and infielder Miguel Rojas, who caught their pitches.
This tribute occurred several months after Rob Reiner, 78, and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, 70, were found fatally stabbed in their Brentwood home in December. Their death certificates indicated they died from multiple sharp force injuries inflicted by a knife. Their youngest son, Nick Reiner, 32, was subsequently arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder. Nick Reiner has pleaded not guilty and has been diagnosed with schizophrenia and a history of drug addiction.
Jake Reiner has previously spoken about the significance of baseball in his relationship with his father. In a Substack essay following his parents' deaths, he wrote about how his connection with his father was "first built on baseball." He described it as his grandfather's favorite sport, passed down to his father and then to him. He recalled attending many games together and stated that he would "never go to Dodger Stadium again without feeling my dad’s presence and hearing his voice tell me why Shohei Ohtani should never bat in the leadoff spot."
Romy Reiner, who discovered her parents' bodies, has largely remained out of the public eye and has not made public statements regarding the killings.
