Rita Wilson honored her husband, Tom Hanks, on his 70th birthday on Thursday, referring to him as the "love of my life." Wilson, 69, shared a photograph of the actor, who was sporting a white beard and sunglasses, accompanied by a loving message.
The couple, who celebrated their 38th wedding anniversary on April 30, married in 1988. They have two sons together, Chet, 35, and Truman, 30. Hanks also has two older children, Colin, 48, and Elizabeth, 44, from his previous marriage to Samantha Lewes.
Wilson and Hanks first met in 1981 while working together on the television show "Bosom Buddies." Earlier this year, Wilson spoke about a significant conversation she had with Hanks in 2015 when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She underwent a double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery during her battle with the illness.
During that time, Wilson told the actor she had two requests: that he be sad for a prolonged period if she were to pass away first, and that he throw her a party to celebrate her life, filled with stories and joy. She expressed that she believed many people would want such a send-off.
The couple are grandparents to three children: Colin's daughters Olivia, 15, and Charlotte, born in 2013, and Chet's daughter Michaiah, 10.
Wilson frequently shares celebratory posts about her relationship with Hanks on social media. In a previous birthday tribute for his 67th birthday, she described him as her "lover, best friend, my family, the father of my children." She also noted his affection for typewriters, his skill at inventing cocktails, his regular DJ sets, his dedication to telling veterans' stories, and his coffee brand supporting veterans, Hanx for our Troops. She concluded that he is one of the smartest people she knows, has made her laugh every day for 38 years, and can nap anywhere.
