A record number of UK 18-year-olds have secured places at university, with initial figures from Ucas showing that 262,820 students have been accepted onto degree courses. This represents a 3% increase compared to the same point last year.
The figures were released on results day, amidst expectations of the highest A-level grades ever recorded. Data journalist Alastair McCall, Editor of the Daily Mail University Guide, noted the significance of these numbers for students and parents navigating the university application process. McCall has previously compiled university rankings based on factors such as teaching quality, student experience, graduate salaries, and career prospects to assist applicants in their choices.
The university admissions service Ucas is expected to release further data as the results day unfolds.
