Ranvir Singh, known for her political interviews on "Good Morning Britain," is set to reveal a different side of herself on the new ITV celebrity gameshow "The Box." The 49-year-old presenter described the experience as life-changing, particularly as it allowed her to overcome a long-standing fear of water.
Singh explained that her phobia, which involves an inability to be in water where she cannot touch the bottom, has been a barrier. She shared that her 14-year-old son, Tushaan, who is an avid swimmer, had often encouraged her to join him in the water. Following her participation in "The Box," Singh found the courage to snorkel with her son during a holiday, marking a significant personal achievement.
"It was amazing. He was so proud of me. I was glad for him that he could see me conquer my fear," Singh told the Daily Mail. "So it's definitely changed how I approach my life. It's opened up doors. I feel really proud of myself."
The gameshow, hosted by Gary Lineker, involves celebrities being placed in yellow boxes and transported to mystery locations to face various challenges with minimal instructions. Singh noted that the transition from her news background, where she is expected to have answers, to the unbriefed nature of "The Box" was discombobulating.
She also reflected on the opportunity to bond with her fellow celebrity contestants, noting that while she might interview them for her job, the show provided a unique chance to get to know them personally outside of their professional paths crossing. Singh, who has been with "Good Morning Britain" for over 12 years, mentioned that she hopes her colleagues will be surprised by her performance.
Singh indicated she was not seen as a primary threat on the show and was more focused on enjoying the experience than being overly competitive, unlike some other contestants. "The Box" features an elimination showdown called "The Duel" at the end of each episode.
Gary Lineker, who is hosting the show, stated that its unique concept and the opportunity to do something new appealed to him. This marks a new venture for Lineker with ITV following his departure from the BBC.
