Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua has revealed his struggles with alcohol, detailing a period of intense personal and professional pressure that led him to seek rehabilitation.

In a pre-game interview with Netflix, Nacua shared that he used alcohol as a way to cope with the mounting stresses of his life, stating, “Alcohol was definitely a thing for me. Just, kind of, drowning myself so that the issues and the stress that I was feeling never had the opportunity to be addressed.” He acknowledged being avoidant of conflict and issues causing him stress, often isolating himself rather than seeking help.

Nacua's challenges intensified during the offseason, which included allegations of biting a woman and making an antisemitic remark during an alleged incident on New Year's Eve. His former girlfriend also publicly accused him of betrayal and neglect. Despite these off-field issues and potential NFL discipline, Nacua was cleared to play in the Rams' season opener in Melbourne.

During this period, Nacua entered a holistic rehabilitation facility. He described this time as "the darkest times that I've had in my life," but found solace in therapy and open conversations. He is now journaling daily as part of his efforts to manage his challenges.

Nacua, who set records in his rookie season with 129 receptions and 1,715 receiving yards, is entering the final year of his rookie contract. He is expected to seek a record-breaking contract if he can navigate his off-field difficulties. His motivation now extends beyond football, aiming to become a father his son can be proud of and to one day explain his past mistakes and the lessons learned from them.
