Los Angeles Rams rookie offensive lineman Keagen Trost sustained a hamstring injury during his preseason debut against the Kansas City Chiefs, exiting the game in the first quarter.
Head coach Sean McVay stated Thursday that the team is hopeful Trost will be able to return before the Rams' Week 1 game against the San Francisco 49ers in Australia. "We're hopeful that he'll be able to return before the first game," McVay said. He added that while Trost's injury is a setback, it is expected to be temporary.
Trost, who was selected by the Rams with the 93rd overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, had been turning heads in training camp. The team had envisioned him becoming a key contributor to the offensive line this season and in the future. His injury impacts the team's depth at the tackle position, which is already facing uncertainty due to a potential league suspension for Alaric Jackson following a June arrest.
McVay noted that other players, such as David Quessenberry, Alaric Jackson, and Warren McClendon, have performed well in camp and will continue to be evaluated. "We’ve got some other guys that we're going to continue to evaluate, and we'll see," McVay commented. Trost's versatility and ability to play both right and left tackle were praised by McVay prior to the injury, with the coach observing his agility and receptiveness to coaching. "You're either sinking or swimming and he's doing a good job keeping his head above water. He's got a lot of great guys to learn from in that room."
