Jodi Brothers, a radio host known for her show "Mornings with Jodi and Bender" in the Seattle, Washington area, revealed on Wednesday that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer. This marks the second time Brothers has faced cancer, having previously battled colon cancer three years ago.
Brothers, 50, shared the news with her listeners while fighting back tears. She recounted how she discovered a lump in her breast in April while using her home sauna. "I found something that definitely did not belong," she said.
The following day, she saw her doctor, who also felt the lump and recommended an ultrasound. After an initial wait, the ultrasound prompted an MRI, followed by another two-week waiting period. The MRI results were concerning, leading to a biopsy, which involved another lengthy wait.
"The biopsy results were invasive ductal carcinoma, which is the most basic bee of all the breast cancers, and I have not one but two little masses in there," Brothers explained.
She is scheduled to undergo a double mastectomy at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center at the end of July. "I can't say how much I'm looking forward to getting this surgery and getting it over with just because it feels like this has been the longest couple of months of my life," she said. Brothers added that she anticipates being away from the show for some time, with hopes to return by the end of the summer.
Brothers acknowledged the fear associated with a cancer diagnosis but expressed confidence in her medical team. She also noted the outpouring of support from friends, family, fans, and her co-host.
She previously battled colon cancer three years earlier, which she also announced on her show.
