Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua playfully ribbed teammate Davante Adams about his age during a recent media session at training camp. Nacua, addressing reporters for the first time during camp, jokingly remarked that Adams was entering "year 40 or whatever it might be."
Following the jest, Nacua was reminded that Adams is entering his 13th NFL season. He responded with laughter, adding that he should have said "year 13" to avoid upsetting his teammate. Despite the lighthearted jab, Nacua acknowledged Adams' significant role in mentoring the team's wide receiver group, highlighting the veteran's embrace of the room's physicality.
Nacua and Adams are entering their second season together with the Rams. The duo was part of a dynamic offense that led the NFL in total yards (6,709) and passing yards (4,557) in the previous season, aiding quarterback Matthew Stafford. Adams led the league with 14 touchdown receptions, while Nacua topped the league with 129 receptions and finished second in yards with 1,715.
Adams, a prominent receiver before joining the Rams, had a notable 2020 season with the Green Bay Packers, where he tied for the league lead with 18 touchdowns. After stints with the Las Vegas Raiders and a release by the New York Jets, Adams signed a two-year, $46 million deal with the Rams, regaining his form as a key red-zone threat.
Nacua expressed his continued admiration for Adams' expertise, noting the wealth of knowledge the veteran possesses regarding offensive concepts, leverage, and reading defenses. He described watching Adams daily as a valuable learning experience.
