Patriotic artist Scott LoBaido is putting the finishing touches on what he believes may be the largest oil-on-canvas portrait of the American flag ever created. The 9-by-17-foot painting of Old Glory is being completed at the Made in America Pavilion during the Great American State Fair in Washington D.C., an event celebrating America's 250th birthday.

LoBaido, a vocal supporter of former President Donald Trump, told Fox News Digital that despite his political leanings, the American flag "does not belong to any particular party" and the message behind his artwork is apolitical. "This flag is for everybody," he stated.

He noted that some on the left perceive the flag as a symbol of the MAGA movement, a view he contests. LoBaido believes this perspective overlooks the flag's broader significance and the meaning of his painting. He observed that visitors from various political backgrounds attend the fair, and conversations have centered on the flag, art, and its meaning rather than partisan politics.

LoBaido also addressed flag desecration, arguing that the American flag is the very symbol that protects the right to protest. "That American flag that men and women still die for is giving you the freedom to be whatever you want, and do whatever you want – protest whatever you want," he said. "So that flag should always be up in the air."

This project differs from his previous works due to its monumental size and the public setting of its creation. LoBaido considers the American flag itself "the greatest work of art" and finds the 250th birthday celebration to be the ideal venue for its public creation.

He anticipates an emotional unveiling on Independence Day, after which the painting is expected to find a permanent home. LoBaido mentioned receiving interest in the piece, even suggesting it could be a fitting addition to the White House. While Trump owns several of his paintings, LoBaido jokingly noted that acquiring this one might require a purchase, adding that he donates a significant portion of his proceeds to charity.
