The Princess of Wales made a surprise appearance at Wimbledon on Thursday, delighting fans by mingling with those queuing for tickets and even assisting at the ticket office. Catherine, 44, smiled and chatted with members of the public who had queued overnight for a chance to gain entry to the prestigious tennis tournament.
She posed for selfies with attendees, including one woman to whom she affectionately put her arm. Dressed in an elegant blue linen suit paired with a white top and her hair in a ponytail, she accessorized with drop earrings featuring a royal-blue gemstone. She also wore a brooch, often referred to as the 'Wimbledon bow', featuring the tournament's iconic colors.
Catherine is a regular fixture at Wimbledon, holding the role of royal patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club since 2016. She has attended most years since 2011, with notable absences including 2013 when she was pregnant with Prince George and 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Last year, she presented the Wimbledon trophy to men's singles champion Jannik Sinner.
Her visit to SW19 comes shortly after she completed the Three Peaks Challenge over the weekend. While at Wimbledon, she was expected to watch a match on an outer court with former tennis player Tim Henman and Deborah Jevans, the chair of the All England Club. She also planned to meet children from the Shine Camera Club, a photography program supporting underprivileged youth.
It was not immediately clear if she would be present in the Royal Box for featured matches, including third seed Iga Swiatek's second-round match against Karolina Pliskova, followed by Arthur Fils versus Matteo Berrettini, and Elena Rybakina against Caty McNally.
