Princess Eugenie and her husband, Jack Brooksbank, announced the birth of their baby daughter in Lisbon. The couple, who divide their time between Portugal and Kensington Palace, shared the news on Instagram with a photo of the newborn.
Unlike with their two older sons, August and Ernest, Princess Eugenie chose not to reveal her daughter's name at the time of the announcement. Her post stated, "Jack and I are so excited to announce Baby Girl Brooksbank!! We are beyond in love with our girlie."
The official Royal Family Instagram account posted a message of goodwill shortly after the announcement, stating: "Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie and Mr Jack Brooksbank are delighted to announce the safe arrival of their daughter, born on Monday, 3rd August 2026, at 6.20pm, at a hospital in Lisbon, Portugal."
Princess Eugenie's brother-in-law, Edo Mapelli Mozzi, also shared a message of support on her Instagram post, accompanying it with three pink heart emojis. Princess Beatrice's husband is noted as appearing to share a close bond with Eugenie and Brooksbank.
The newborn is the second royal baby in a century to be born outside of the United Kingdom. The first was Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, daughter of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, born in California in June 2021. Lilibet was born at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. In contrast, Prince Harry and Meghan's son, Archie, was born at the private Portland Hospital in London.
For her first photograph, the newborn was dressed in a pink Angel Wing Pointelle Sleepsuit and a hat from the luxury children's range by Princess Marie-Chantal of Greece. This choice echoes a similar tribute made by Princess Beatrice, who dressed her daughter Athena in a blanket designed by Marie-Chantal.
Details within the announcement photo suggest Jack Brooksbank may have been holding the baby. Like King Charles, Brooksbank appears to wear his wedding band on his pinky finger alongside a signet ring, a practice noted in the image. Prince William, however, does not wear a wedding band.
Princess Eugenie has continued her tradition of announcing births on Instagram, as she did for her sons August and Ernest. This follows a period of public scrutiny concerning her father, Prince Andrew, and his past associations. In response to public attention, Eugenie's patronage with the anti-slavery charity Anti-Slavery International has concluded after seven years.
