The Chicago White Sox have secured a spot in the MLB playoffs for the first time since 2021, and Pope Francis, a known fan of the team, was playfully questioned about his involvement in their success.

When asked whether he played a role in the team clinching a playoff berth with their recent win against the Kansas City Royals, Pope Francis offered a "No comment." He added that "great things happen in Chicago."

Last month, the White Sox sent a Pope Leo XIV-White Sox-themed cap to the Pope, who is from Chicago and follows the team. He later shared a photograph of himself with the cap.

The White Sox currently hold the No. 3 American League wild-card seed with an 82-77 record. They are one game behind the Cleveland Guardians for first place in the AL Central. The team's final seeding will determine whether they host a playoff game or travel for the Wild Card round. Chicago concludes its regular season with a three-game series at home against the Colorado Rockies from September 25-27.
